ROT:
2007 Weingut Erich Scheiblhofer Andau (Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee) €7,50
"Vanilla nose with hints of plum and cherries. Very sweet on the palate with candied fruit, prominent alcohol, vanilla oak and soft tannins. Overtly modern, a wine with lots of make-up. Quite worked and rather tiring to drink. A crowd-pleaser, but not the kind of wine I like to drink." - 84 points
2006 Anton Iby Blaufränkisch Mittelburgenland DAC Hochäcker (Austria, Burgenland, Mittelburgenland) €9,00
Dark fruit nose with a gentle gamey note. Smooth palate with black cherries and blackberries, spice box, and nougat. Fruit-forward, juicy style, good ripeness, well balanced with fine acidity and soft tannins, but not a lot of structure. Sophisticated easy drinking. Drink now + 2 years. - 88 points
2006 Winzerhof Schindler Fuego (Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee Hügelland) €13,00
(slightly moldy cork). Ruby red with brownish hue towards the edges. Baked red fruits, cherry jam, plums and asian spices, with a light rum note on the nose. Juicy on the palate with lots of pepper and spices, refreshing acidity, reserved cherry jam fruit, rather soft tannins. Slighty vegetal cardboard taste (could be from faulty cork). The finish is slightly clipped. Not as fruity as I remember, but still a good wine. - 88 points
2006 Cantina Convento Muri-Gries Lagrein (Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol) € 8,50
Again a very good bottle of wine. Rather light on the palate, juicy, soft tannins, just a gentle hint of oak, expressive and pure red fruit flavors, prominent acidity and quite spicy. Great with food. - 88 points
2007 Quinta Quietud Toro Corral de Campanas (Spain, Castilla y León, Toro) € 9,50
Excellent basic Toro wine. Dark blackberry fruit, not jammy, rather juicy in style with good acidity. Quite powerful, with high alcohol and glycerin sweetness, soft tannins. Some earthy notes. Rather simple structure and not the most sophisticated aromatics, but an honest wine with very good balance and good QPR. Ready to drink. - 88 points
2005 Bremerton Shiraz Selkirk (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Langhorne Creek) € 13,00
Dark cherries and blackberries with very elegant and well integrated oak, very spicy and peppery, some milk chocolate, slightly sweet, very smooth tannins, quite strong overall, but the 15% alc. are well integrated. A bit short on the finish and not very complex, but went well with our BBQ. Ready to drink, no need to store this any longer. - 88 points

2009 Alphart Veltliner & Co (Austria, Niederösterreich, Thermenregion) €5,19
Very refreshing and light summer white wine cuvée (Grüner Veltliner, Neuburger, Welschriesling), with great balance, yellow apples and stone fruits, floral notes, a lively acidity, slightly creamy & nutty and a gentle mineral touch. What more can you ask for considering this is a 5 Euro wine? Drink it young, best 2010! I will buy more. Great summer wine. - 87 points
2007 Schloss Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner Renner (Austria, Niederösterreich, Kamptal) € 15,00
A very nice bottle of Grüner Veltliner. Fruity, with a mineral terroir note and just gorgeously balanced. The acidity is so beautifully integrated but still cuts right through the slightly buttery texture. The fruit is ripe (a nice thing after several slightly green 2008s recently), but never overly so, with yellow apples and a refreshing lemon note. Backed by the typical crushed pepper spiciness this wine reverborates long on the finish but always remains cleansing on the palate. Excellent wine and great value (at least here in Austria). Great drinking now, but should hold another few years. - 90 points
2008 Zahel Wiener Gemischter Satz Nußberg (Austria, Wien) €10,00
Somewhat weird cuvée that doesn't seem very balanced aromatically. Lots of acidity, slightly green, but also some tropical fruits. Simple, but interestingly different. Drink now. - 84 points
